My Resolutions for 2017

Hello world,

January 1, was such a pretty start into 2017, thus I am ready to present to you my resolutions for this next year.

I didn’t do resolutions for 2016, however, I was scrolling through my blog and found some for 2015 in this post. That time I did little goals, which were not insurmountable challenges, and I would like to do the same for this year. Just a simple inspiration for myself. Sadly, though, two of goals for 2017 are the same as the goals for 2015. Hm.

1. Sleep more. I don’t get enough rest. Six hours has become my new eight hours, on which I function well. That is not what I want to achieve. Especially since, when I miraculously do sleep eight hours I feel so much more energized and happy. Sleep is an important health aspect, but I often prioritize other things. Some are important and/or good (paper due/late night adventures), but most of them are not worth it (season 8 of Friends/pinning pretty quotes of Pinterest). In 2017 I want to prioritize sleep more.
dsc013722. Read more. April through June of 2016 I read 17 books in four different languages, and analyzed 14 poems thoroughly. The Swiss graduation process thus dried up my love for literature for most of the rest of the year, except for a few ones here and there. Six months and one day after having left high school I feel like I am ready to start it up again. I still haven’t got a library card in Heidelberg (the fun one, not the serious one), which has got to change. There are so many books I want to read; my Amazon cart is bursting at its seams. However, it will be hard to restructure my routines in order to fit reading in. In 2017 I want to be the smart kid, who reads, again.
dsc014673. Photograph more. I did photograph a lot in 2016 (and in 2015 and even more in 2014 and, boy, a lot in 2013, too), but this year I want to raise the bar. Until now, I’ve mainly focused on landscape photography (that was a pun right there, ha). In this year I would like to branch out to more close up, portrait, lifestyle and creative photography. Landscape is the least scary field, because nothing is moving, and it easily looks rather pretty, but I don’t want to be satisfied by it.

That is why I am hereby launching the attempt of a project for this year: In 2017 I want to set a theme for every week for which I will have to take a photo. This photo will be uploaded to my blog every week under a name I have yet to determine. Again, this is an attempt, but we will see where it takes me. I am pretty pumped.
dsc01338That’s it. Those are my resolutions for 2017. Another year over, another year beginning. Time flies.

I feel like I am the only person, who is sad for 2016 to be over. It was pretty shitty year for humanity, I guess, but I had one of, if not the best year of my life. So many exciting and positive things happened. Looking back I cannot find any bad times this year: I was just racing from one life changing event to the next.

I don’t know what 2017 has in store. In fact, I don’t know as much about this year as I usually do. The big picture is pretty much set, but it is the ‘small’ things that count, anyways. It’s the trips, the adventures, the memorable moments, which I can only hope will happen in 2017, too.

Let’s have another wonderful year. I am ready.

xo

Layla
